Huskies at the village edge

Bearhill's Santa's Husky Rides: a 2.5 km sled ride through the forest at the edge of Santa Claus Village, with a musher at the back and hot juice and cookies in a kota after. It is the easiest real husky ride to fit into a village day, since you walk there and the whole thing takes half an hour.

Santa Claus Village Husky Ride

About this experience

You meet at Santa's Husky Rides, Joulumaantie 4, in Santa Claus Village, at your booked time. Inside a 30-minute slot you get a 2.5 km ride through the woods, which takes 7 to 12 minutes depending on the dog team and the weather. An experienced musher stands at the back and drives; you sit and hold on. Afterwards you warm up in a Lappish kota with hot juice and cookies, and there is usually time to meet the dogs.

The 2026-27 season in the village runs 30 November 2026 to 4 April 2027, daily 10:00 to 16:00, per Santa Claus Village. Before 30 November there are no rides here. Snow usually settles in November, but nobody can promise it early in the season. When it is thin, rides can be shorter or run on wheeled carts. Bearhill runs its longer tours from its main kennel about 35 km away; this one is the short version for people visiting the village.

A sled fits up to 4 adults. Bearhill does not split groups, but you may share a sled with people outside your party, and single travellers always do. Transfers and outdoor clothing are not included, and drones are not allowed. Getting to the village on your own is easy: bus 8 runs from the city centre in about half an hour, EUR 3.60 one way (EUR 3.30 in the Waltti Mobile app), and parking at the village is free. Every tour on this site cancels free up to 24 hours before the start.

wow amazing, great value for money the dogs seemed and looked healthy. Thier little feet were protected and our guide told us all about their rehoming programme when they retire [...] the ride even though short felt like a long time and enough for the experience.

★★★★★

An incredible ride, the guide accompanies you while steering the sled. The dogs are docile and the local landscape is very beautiful; I felt like I was in a film. At the end, they serve a wonderful hot juice and biscuit.

It was a magical experience! The snow had alreasy become slushy and watery in some spots but the trail was still good to go! The dogs looked very well taken care of and enthusiastic to run. Some were very cuddly as well.

Tips before you book

  • Book a late-morning or midday slot in December. There are only two to three hours of daylight around the solstice, and the forest looks best in it.
  • Dress for sitting still in the wind: ski trousers, a long coat, mittens and a hat. Clothing is not included.
  • Put your phone on a strap or in an inside pocket. Gloves off at speed means cold fingers fast.
  • Plan Santa around it. In December the queue inside Santa Claus Office takes about an hour, so book the ride for after your entry time.
  • Families of 4 adults fill a sled; smaller groups may share with strangers. Ask at check-in if you want to sit together.
