Booking choice: The village visit with lunch, from $168 per person. Check dates Tour details
Getting to Santa Claus Village on your own is easy. There is no gate and no ticket, so all you need is a ride to the Arctic Circle: a city bus, a seasonal private bus, a taxi or your own car. Tours add hotel pickup, a guide and extras such as animals or lunch, which is why many families book one for the first day.
Below: how bus 8 works and how to pay, the Santa's Express and Airport Express, taxis, driving and parking, the trip from the airport, which tours pick you up, and a table of opening hours for the main places in the village this winter.

From November to March the private Santa's Express and Airport Express also link the city, the village and the airport. By car it is 8 km on highway E4, and parking at the village is free.
How do you get from Rovaniemi to Santa Claus Village?
By city bus 8, by taxi, by car on highway E4, or on a tour with pickup. The village is 8 km north of the city centre, on the road towards Ivalo.
The village is hard to miss. Highway E4 (European route E75) runs straight through its gateway, between the towers, per Santa Claus Village. How does bus 8 to Santa Claus Village work, and how much is it?
Bus 8 runs all year from the railway station and the city centre to the Arctic Circle stop at the village. A single adult ticket costs EUR 3.60 paid to the driver, or EUR 3.30 in the Waltti Mobile app.
Linkkari, the Rovaniemi city bus, names the line "Route 8 Arctic Circle - Ruokasenkatu - Rantavitikka (University) - Railway Station". The city centre, the university and the village are all in zone A, so one single ticket covers the ride. It also lets you change buses within 60 minutes.
- Pay on board: cash or a contactless bank card to the driver.
- Pay by app: Waltti Mobile is cheaper and sells a 24-hour ticket, handy for a return trip plus a ride around town.
- Ticket machines: Waltti machines sell single tickets too.
- How often: roughly every 45 minutes on weekdays, less often at weekends. On school days there are extra 8C trips. Check the timetable before you go.
- In the city: Linkkari moved its city-centre hub to the Ruokasenkatu bridge on 20 October 2026 and runs temporary arrangements, so check the current stop in the Linkkari journey planner.
The ride takes about half an hour from Ruokasenkatu to the Arctic Circle stop on the winter timetable. Look up your return bus while you still have signal and warm fingers, and check it again before the afternoon in the village runs away with you.
| Bus 8 ticket (zone A, 2026-27) | Cash or contactless | Waltti Mobile app |

Check dates for the guided walk of the villageWhat are Santa's Express and the Airport Express?
Private buses that link Santa Claus Village, the city centre and Rovaniemi Airport in the winter season. Santa Claus Village lists them for November to March.
Santa Claus Village calls them "our local buses". Visit Rovaniemi says the Airport Express runs via Santa Claus Village to the airport, and that tickets for both buses are sold online at airportbus.fi with no pre-reservation needed; Finavia adds that you can buy tickets on the bus. Fares are a few euros; see airportbus.fi for the current price.
One wrinkle on the calendar: Visit Rovaniemi links an Airport Express timetable valid from 10 August, while the village names November to March for both buses. Check airportbus.fi for the dates you travel. SantaPark and Santa Claus Office also mention a "Santa Claus Bus" between the city and the village; SantaPark says it stops at SantaPark and that you pay the driver by cash or card.
A third option runs in autumn and winter: the Apukka Shuttle Bus, between the city centre, Santa Claus Village and Apukka Resort. Santa Claus Village says anyone can ride it, not only resort guests.
How do you get from Rovaniemi Airport to Santa Claus Village?
The airport is only 3 to 4 km from the village. Take the Airport Express via the village in season, a taxi from outside the terminal, or a rental car.
Finavia calls Rovaniemi "the official airport of Santa Claus". Finnair flies from Helsinki daily all year, Norwegian flies the same route too, and winter brings seasonal direct flights from abroad, London Gatwick among them, per Santa Claus Office. Some families land and go straight to Santa, which works well: the village is closer to the airport than the city is.
- Airport Express: runs via Santa Claus Village to the city; tickets at airportbus.fi or on the bus.
- Taxi: Menevä taxis wait at the airport exit, Visit Rovaniemi says; the ride to the village is about 4 km.
- Rental car: Hertz, Avis, Europcar, Sixt and Green Motion have desks at the airport.
- Bus 8: not an airport bus. Its route runs from the railway station through the city to the Arctic Circle.
Arriving by train instead? The Santa Claus Express night train runs from Helsinki to Rovaniemi, and bus 8 starts at the railway station.

Can you take a taxi to Santa Claus Village?
Yes. The ride from the city centre is about 8 km, and the village has its own taxi rank for the way back.
Santa Claus Village suggests Taksi Rovaniemi on +358 (0)600 14000 or its free app, and Menevä Taksi Rovaniemi, which runs many electric cars and takes bookings in its app. Taxis are metered and no official fare is published, so ask the dispatcher for an estimate when you book.
A taxi makes most sense in three cases: you have small children and a buggy, you plan to stay past the last bus for dinner at Restaurant Gallis or KURU, or you are four people splitting one car. In the December rush, book the return ride ahead instead of hoping the rank has a car at 20:00.

Is there parking at Santa Claus Village?
Yes, and it is free. Drive 8 km north from the city centre on highway E4 and follow the signs to the car parks by the village.
Snowman World confirms free parking at Santa Claus Village. The contrast is the city centre, where Visit Rovaniemi says most places charge 2 euros an hour from the ticket machines. Electric car? The St1 Rovaniemi Napapiiri station next to the village has 12 high-capacity charging points and is open around the clock.
- Address for the satnav: Tähtikuja 1, 96930 Napapiiri (Arctic Circle).
- Winter driving: leave extra time for dark, icy mornings.
- Drones: not allowed over the village without air-control permission, because the airport is less than 5 km away.
A car pays off if you want more than the village in one day: SantaPark is a short drive away near the airport, and the Arctic Circle Hiking Area is about 12 minutes from the village, per Santa Claus Village.

Explore the village visit with lunch Tour detailsWhich Santa Claus Village tours include pickup?
Most guided village tours collect you from your hotel in Rovaniemi. The farm day starts from the city centre instead, and the guided walk meets you at the village.
Reaching the village alone costs under EUR 4 each way. A tour adds the pickup, a guide and whatever is included: animals, lunch, a second attraction. None of these sells entry, because there is none to sell, and none of them skips the queue for Santa. In December a guide can collect the free entry time at Santa Claus Office for you, which saves standing around.
